The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster® (A-CSM) is for you if you have your CSM and want to expedite the journey to greater agility on the Scrum Alliance Path to CSP. Unlike many, with our A-CSM you learn with a group of peers in a live session.

The CSM introduced the basics, now go deeper into scaling, empiricism, coaching, soft-skills, root cause analysis, XP Engineering, and Kanban .

Your trainer has over 20 years agile experience so your challenges and opportunities are reviewed in a profound, but practical, way. This is in sharp contrast to superficial concepts delivered by inexperienced agile trainers.

After the session we register you with the Scrum Alliance. If you have more a year of agile work experience, have the CSM Cert, and complete this session, you achieve the A-CSM designation, and are one step away from CSP-SM.

Refund Policies

What happens if you can't attend

We try to avoid cancellations and expect you to be similarly respectful; so there are fees associated with cancellations to cover a portion of costs we incur, including credit card processing.

Grow-Lean has established policies around situations where you as an attendee, or Grow-Lean as a host, must cancel or reschedule. Grow-Lean's policies are significantly more consumer-friendly than most other training providers. We do this because we realize that unforeseen things happen, but we ask that you be thoughtful about canceling late so we can continue to put our customers first.

By registering yourself or others for the session, or by being a registrant, you agree to the policies below. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Cancellations

Cancellation requests received at least sixteen (16) days prior to the event will receive a 100% refund minus a 5% credit card processing fee.

Cancellation requests received fifteen (15) to eight (8) days prior to the event will receive a 100% refund minus a 5% credit card processing fee and a $125 late cancellation fee.

Cancellation requests received seven (7) or less days prior to the event will receive a credit equal to 50% of the amount paid that can be applied to any future event that the registrant will take in the next twelve months.

Reschedule Requests

Reschedule requests received at least sixteen (16) days prior to the event will have no fees for the first request. Additional reschedule requests will be subject to a $125 transfer fee.

Reschedule requests received less than sixteen (16) days prior to the event will be subject to a $125 transfer fee.

Grow-Lean Reschedule Events

We try to avoid rescheduling. If Grow-Lean needs to reschedule, all registrants will promptly receive a 100% refund. Registrants may decide to be transferred into the rescheduled event, or another upcoming event, instead of the refund if they desire.

David Bulkin

Scrum Alliance: CST, CSP SM, CSP PO, CAL 1; SAFe SPC, PMI: PMI-ACP

David Bulkin is a managing director and head of training services at Grow-Lean. He delivers the CSM, A-CSM and CSPO courses. He certified over 10,000 students with the Scrum Alliance. Unlike most trainers David continues to build systems as a team member, doing hands on work like designing, coding, testing, etc. His commitment to training others, combined with his continued work as a team member, positions him to deliver a classroom experience that will boost your career.

David's thought leadership in 2009 on progressive elaboration for agile requirements, influenced what is now known as refinement (entering Scrum in 2011). David has successfully applied agile to manufacturing, marketing, sales, finance, and other areas outside of IT. He was an independent reviewer of the original PMI-ACP body of knowledge that fed the creation of the PMI-ACP Exam and has worked on the exam questions for the Certified Scrum Master Exam. David’s broad background ensures you are getting up to date ideas to apply in your workplace.

David has 37 years of work experience, making him an old guy, but no worries, he has high energy and is up to date on modern technologies. David has been applying agile since he got his start in 2001 at JP Morgan Chase where Kent Beck, The Father of Extreme Programming (XP), and perhaps also Agile, was his coach. Via DevOps, XP techniques are growing in popularity today; David is in a good position to help you learn them.

As a hands-on practitioner David has had many roles including Project Manager, Coder, Tester, Business Analyst, Product Manager, Product Owner, and Scrum Master. David continues to build things, including the software serving up this web page, so, if it is broken, contact him.

By continuing to work on actual projects and product development, David stays practical and level headed. He brings an understanding of your needs into the classroom so you benefit from his experience.

A Bit About David From David

Hi,

I live on the East Coast of the US close to New Jersey and Philadelphia. I have one wife, two kids, and a cat. My older daughter is a in college, living away from home for the first time. My other daughter is high school. Like many, our family got a pet, in our case, a rescue cat, early in the pandemic. I miss being in session with students, but it has been nice to see my wife, kids and the cat!

I am known for high energy and keeping it fun, and personal, so, if you attend a session with me, you won't be bored.

Discounts

Options for your circumstances

Are you a student, active military, a military veteran, unemployed, an alumni, paying out of pocket, registering a group, or any combination thereof? Request your Grow-Lean discount, or stacked discounts, now!

As alumni, you can log in first, or use your account email, and receive an automatic discount. If you are alumni and also qualify for another discount, request it, and as long as your email matches we know you are an alumni.

In addition to discounts you can pay in installments by choosing Splitit at checkout.

After entering your request you may email us at Grow-Lean-Training@Grow-Lean.Com or call us +1.609.975.9294 for questions.

If you have a Visa or Mastercard credit card you can pay in up to 12 monthly installments. There are no fees or interest if you pay on time! Your available credit must be enough to cover the full cost and there is a hold on your credit card for the amount that you have not paid.

For example, if your final fee is $1,000 and you chose 10 installments:

  • You would pay $100 today and have a $900 hold placed on your credit card.
  • The following month your credit card would be charged another $100 and the hold would be reduced to $800.
  • Each month you pay $100 and each month the hold is reduced by $100.

If you are not familiar with the term "hold" this is similar to what hotels do when you check in, to cover extra expenses you may incur including the mini bar.

The benefit to you is that you do not pay any interest or fees if all payments are on time.

Preparation for Session

Maximize learning by preparing your technology for the session

We use common tools for our virtual sessions. Please read on to confirm what you need for the Advanced Certified ScrumMaster session.

  • Internet connected Computer / Tablet: Many students use a single device for the session, others use two devices, perhaps their work laptop for the webcam and a separate device for sharing.
  • Working Webcam: Virtually all laptop have integrated webcams. If you don't have that, we will assist you in setting up your phone as a webcam.
  • Working headset or speaker plus microphone: Depending on your laptop, the built-in microphone and speaker may be sufficient. Many use earphones.
  • Access to Zoom: If you haven't used Zoom, test it at: https://zoom.us/test. Click "Join", and follow the prompts. If you have problems, check the Zoom article at: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115002262083-Joining-a-Zoom-test-meeting
  • A location from which to participate: .
    • Ideally this location will:
      • Have good lighting
      • Be relatively quiet
      • Ensure that you have minimal interruptions
    • But, no worries if you don't have a perfect spot. It is expected that kids, dogs, cats, spouses, siblings, roommates, parents, or someone else makes some noise, or appears on camera.
  • Practice with Mural: Mural is a virtual white board.
    • Prior to the class you will benefit by going to https://learn.mural.co/.
    • After the class we provide you an electronic copy of the completed Mural Board which captures your classroom experience.
  • Access to Google Drive: The sign-in is a Google Sheet. If you are using a work computer you may be able to enter, but not modify the Google Sheet. If this is the case you can use another device to enter your information. If you can't, no worries, the Google Sheet is not a key to the class.
  • Getting into the Session: The Zoom information will be provided no later than 48 hours prior to the session. You will be able to join the session up to 30 minutes early to check your technology.

Advanced Certified ScrumMaster

Advanced Certified ScrumMaster

Advanced Certified ScrumMaster Logo

You are a CSM® and you have real-world experience applying agile. Take the next step with the Grow-Lean Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) to learn facilitation techniques; powerful questions; to go deep into Kanban, XP and multiple scaling models (SAFe, LeSS, S@S, FAST); to apply root cause analysis; and to improve your ability to grow your team's performance.

Do all of this while improving your career. As an added bonus, if your CSM has expired, taking our session will renew it for another two years.

Key Details

Benefit from Deep Agile Experience of Your Trainer

Not all A-CSM Sessions are equal. With many you work on your own, with little classroom interaction. Some sessions lack intellectual depth, with theory instead of practice.

In our 100% live session you gain new techniques to facilitate, teach and mentor, learning with a trainer who started with Agile in 2001 and who still actively builds products.

You will leave ready to practically apply empirical approaches to grow your team and organization horizontally (across role and function) and vertically (scale).

  • You’ll see how tools like the ones used in class can also be used to collaborate and communicate more fluidly with both your teams and your stakeholders.
  • You’ll review basics, like walking a task board, but with a new, enlightened, perspective, so you can return to work with opportunities for improvements.
  • Whatever questions you raise in class will be answered as directly as possible, as we favor practical application over theory.

"We know the impact that a great workshop experience can have so all of our trainers have a minimum of 18 years of agile experience and 15 years of training experience."

The Grow-Lean Training Team

Everything Included

With Grow-Lean, there are no nasty surprises!

Be careful of the company you pick. With Grow-Lean everything is covered including the certification fees and renewal of your CSM license if it has expired. There are no surprise costs when you register or accept your license.

As an added bonuses you get:

  • Practice quizzes.
  • 1-on-1 time with your trainer.
  • Free class retake with 120 days.
  • Discounts off of the Certified Scrum Professional ScrumMaster (CSP-SM).

What You Learn

Advanced material and techniques to grow your career

The topics are covered in an advanced manner. For example, for the Scrum Events we review multiple patterns, allowing you to identify a variation appropriate for your environment. For example, you can do a Daily Scrum column-by-column, right to left instead of person-by-person to focus on getting a small number of items all the way to done.

If you need a refresh on you CSM, talk to us about a discounted package of CSM plus A-CSM, but don't worry if you CSM is expired as it will automatically be renewed.

We start with powerful questions so we can apply them throughout the session. We briefly review the basics, then we go deep into a number of topics, such as practically applying empirical approaches, differences between scaling models like SAFe, LeSS and FAST, how to move beyond proximate cause with root cause analysis, etc.

In all cases, instead of pure theory, we make the topics tangible so you can employ them in your workplace.

Benefits You Earn

Valuable post class benefits including membership, a free class retake, etc.

By taking the session, you earn the chance to become a Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) as long as you meet requirements for work experience (one year as a ScrumMaster) and have a CSM (note your CSM does not need to be active).

The advanced certification will differentiate you, but more importantly, the deep learning will allow you to interview with confidence and apply advanced techniques in the work place.

Go Beyond Scrum

There is more to agile than just Scrum, we help you grow with other frameworks

As an advanced class we go beyond Scrum and cover how to grow with practices from other agile frameworks:

  • XP and DevOps: Engineering practices to continuously integrate and deliver.
  • SAFe®, LeSS® Scrum@Scale®:  FAST®p; Align multiple teams on one endeavor.
  • Kanban: Limit WIP, increase focus and create flow.
  • Lean: Apply the mindset from the mother of agile.
  • Lean Startup®: Apply build-measure-learn loops to improve outcomes.
  • Operational and Plan Driven Approaches: Sometimes agile is not the answer

Don't stop at Scrum. Come to this session and learn how to apply ideas from a variety of frameworks.

What's Different?

Experienced trainer, 100% live session

Grow-Lean: 100% live, interactive, session
Others: Watch videos and work alone

Grow-Lean: Trainer who still builds product

Others: Trainer who talks about building

Grow-Lean: True advanced material

Others: Rudimentary material

Grow-Lean: Trainer with 20+ years in agile

Others: Trainer with 5 or 10 years agile experience

Grow-Lean: Leave with actionable ideas

Others: Leave with vague concepts

Because you get...

Practice Quizzes?

There is no exam, but the quizzes reinforce learnings

You might remember taking your CSM Exam. Although there is no exam for the A-CSM or CSP-SM you can still get significant benefit from our quizzes as the review the CSM material and go beyond, covering advanced topics.

  • The practice quizzes are active learning that increases retention.
  • They apply what cognitive science calls retrieval practice.
  • Retrieval practice makes learning challenging which helps you remember the material.

If you have time prior to the session use them as a refresher. Or perhaps, during the session you notice some weak spots and review the quizzes post class to fill in the knowledge gaps.
